| DOWN SYNDROME: A REASON TO ABORT? |
Jesse Ridgway — YouTuber, 4.3 million subscribers, known online as McJuggerNuggets — was filming a gender reveal video with his wife Ashley when the prenatal results came back. Trisomy 21. Down syndrome. They terminated the pregnancy. Then he told his audience. The response was immediate and brutal. Death threats. Mass harassment. His wife hasn't spoken publicly. Ridgway says they weren't planning to go public — they were blindsided mid-filming and he reverted to being honest. About 80% of families who receive a Down syndrome diagnosis in the US terminate the pregnancy. Most of them don't have 4 million people watching. The decision is legal. The backlash is real. Both sides of this have been waiting for exactly this moment. |
| POSITION A: Their Body, Their Choice |
| They received a devastating diagnosis, consulted doctors and family, and made a legal decision about their own pregnancy. The 80% of families who make the same choice don't get death threats because nobody's watching. |
| POSITION B: This Went Too Far |
| Down syndrome is not a terminal diagnosis. People with the condition live full, meaningful lives — and the decision to end a pregnancy specifically because of it sends a message to every person with Down syndrome about how society values their existence. That's worth a hard conversation, even if the threats are wrong. |
