MAGA AFTER TRUMP: WHAT COMES NEXT?

Last week Marco Rubio stood in for the White House press secretary, traded rap lyrics with reporters, and went viral. His staff cut it into a campaign-style video with soaring music. #Rubio2028 trended on X. Then he flew to the Vatican to meet the new Pope while Trump was feuding with him publicly.

Rubio is quietly becoming the face of a different kind of MAGA — one built on American exceptionalism and immigrant success stories instead of grievance and carnage. Many Trump voters now see him as a stabilizing force who comes off better than most of his peers in the administration, including Vance. Betting markets are suddenly bullish on Rubio as a 2028 contender.

Trump can't run again. The 22nd Amendment makes that official. Whoever comes next has to decide whether to inherit the anger that built the movement or try to build something that can survive without it. Rubio is betting on the latter. The question is whether the base will follow.
