Kootenai County Fairgrounds Incident Involved Backpack Fire, Not Explosive DeviceMarch 10, 2026

The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) has clarified that the reported explosive device incident at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds on Sunday did not involve an actual explosive device. Authorities say 21-year-old John Marsh, whose parents were vendors at the event, was involved in a disagreement with a neighboring vendor. Following this argument, Marsh allegedly purchased fire-accelerating items and set his backpack on fire, sliding it under the other vendor's table. The burning backpack was quickly thrown outside, where it was extinguished by an off-duty fire marshal. Marsh was arrested and is being held on a $150,000 bond. The contents of the backpack are currently undergoing chemical testing, but the KCSO has confirmed that no bomb-like explosion occurred.

Lang is described as 5'8' tall, weighing about 210 lbs, with blue eyes and several tattoos on his body. He is originally from British Columbia, Canada, but is known to sail around the world with a home base in Hawaii. Lang was last seen in Hawaii in January 2025.
