BYU-Idaho Student Dies in Car Crash Near PrestonMarch 25, 2026

A 23-year-old Brigham Young University-Idaho student named John G. Mills IV, or 'Jay,' died on Saturday, March 21, near Preston from injuries due to a car crash. Mills had been a student at the university since 2025 and was a biology major. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had served a two-year church mission in the Pocatello area from August 2022 to August 2024. The single-vehicle rollover crash occurred on U.S. Highway 91 at 9:45 a.m., just north of Preston, on Saturday. Mills, who was the passenger, died at the scene, and the driver, who has not been identified, was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital.
