Walter Morrison invented the modern Frisbee in 1937 when he was tossing a popcorn tin lid with his girlfriend on a beach. A stranger offered them 25 cents for it, which only cost a nickel. Morrison realized he'd stumbled onto a business - people would pay for flying discs.He spent years perfecting the design, eventually creating the "Pluto Platter" out of plastic. In 1957, he sold the rights to toy company Wham-O, who renamed it the Frisbee and turned it into one of the most successful toys ever made. Morrison became a wealthy man from his accidental invention.When Morrison died in 2010 at age 90, his family honored his final wishes in the most appropriate way possible. They had his ashes molded into actual Frisbees, which were distributed to family members and close friends as memorial discs.The inventor literally became part of his own invention. Morrison got to spend eternity doing exactly what he loved most - flying through the air.
