There's a species of jellyfish called Turritopsis dohrnii that has discovered something scientists thought was impossible - the secret to biological immortality. This tiny translucent creature, only about 4.5 millimeters wide, can literally reverse its own aging process and start life over again.When Turritopsis dohrnii gets old, sick, injured, or stressed, it doesn't die. Instead, it sinks to the ocean floor, transforms into a blob of tissue, and then completely reverses its aging. Its adult cells transform back into juvenile cells through a process called transdifferentiation - essentially hitting the reset button on its biological clock.The jellyfish reverts all the way back to its polyp stage (like being a baby again), and then grows back into an adult jellyfish that's genetically identical to its former self. It can repeat this process indefinitely. Scientists have watched individual jellyfish do this 11 times in just two years.The only things that can actually kill these jellyfish are predators or diseases. But aging itself? That literally cannot kill them.
